Three Tips for Getting Started with ECS

Release time: 2022-03-23 15:53:47

According to your usage habits and the cloud computing platform you choose, you may find that you are using the cloud virtual host, VPS, etc. rented from the server. You still need to be familiar with new combinations of computing, storage, network connectivity, and more. When setting up the ECS carrying environment, Huawei Cloud provides you with three tips for getting started with ECS

Three Tips for Getting Started with ECS

First, set the administrator account and permissions

Just as you want to control which administrators can manage physical hardware, you need to ensure that only authorized personnel can access and operate it in the cloud environment and ECS

We recommend that you take some time to understand how your cloud platform handles management accounts and permissions, and follow the principle of minimum permissions (do not abuse management permissions). For example, in some cloud platforms, you can set different user permissions for specific virtual machines, which allows you to specifically designate personnel to perform limited operations, such as updating, taking snapshots, and restoring data without becoming an administrator.

Second, rational use of computing resources

Once you have mastered the management tools of the cloud platform, it should be a very fast and simple process to use ECS computing instances. However, it is easy to make a mistake that computing resources are excessively consumed, such as CPU utilization exceeding 100% for a long time. In the long run, this will affect the performance and cost of the cloud environment, which may have a complex and unpredictable impact on the performance of ECS. Our suggestion is to gradually increase computing resources from an early stage. As we all know, the expansion of cloud server computing scale is flexible and efficient, and can be expanded anytime, anywhere.

Third, ensure the security of connecting to the public network

Finally, you may want to connect your cloud environment to external networks, such as the public Internet. You also need to take measures to ensure that this connection is as secure as possible and avoid data leakage (enterprises using AWS cloud storage packages have also experienced several times before).

Therefore, an important part of using ECS is to be familiar with how your cloud platform connects to external networks and what functions can protect these external connections. For example, use cloud routers to build an intranet, isolate the intranet from the intranet, isolate the intranet from the extranet, and export the unified bandwidth through cloud routing.
